Ready for a Beach Trip?
Time to start planning for your class field trip to the coast! With the live, interactive Internet field trip, EstuaryLIVE on Thursday/Friday, September 15/16, your class can talk to marine biologists and naturalists about the fascinating animals on this year's schedule -- horseshoe crabs, sea turtles, reptiles, marine snails -- and learn about the classification of North Carolina marine invertebrates. Special sessions will also feature marine science research vessels, important coastal habitats, and sailing with the North Carolina Maritime Museum.
Last year's programs included a rich diversity of science and social/cultural sessions. Highlights were a trip to a man-made
island to study geology and dredging, a demonstration by a duck decoy
carver, a crab fest with a researcher from the Duke Marine Lab, and a lesson from a world-class, professional sand sculptor.
This isn’t canned but live, real-time interaction. Students can ask
questions by posting to our Instant Message Board and get almost
instant responses from our eFieldTrip guides.
Technology? All you will need is a computer with Web access and the
free RealPlayer plug-in.
