Students Inspired to Fly Their Dreams by North Carolina Astronaut Bill McArthur

The best way to encourage young people to make their dreams come true is to introduce them to someone who has. Thats the mission of the Partners in Flight Fly Your Dreams Project, and the successful dreamer to receive the award this year is North Carolinas own Commander of the International Space Stations Expedition 12, Bill McArthur.

Commander McArthur will receive the award at the Great Shoebox Glider Challenge Celebration and Air Show to be streamed live from the Education Building in Raleigh on Friday, December 16th, from 10 to 12:30.

Five teams will present their shoebox glider research to NASAs Challenge Master via 2-way videoconferencing. Teams presenting will be from Franklinton Elementary School, Franklin County Schools; Columbia Middle School, Tyrrell County Schools; Piney Grove Middle School, Stokes County Schools; and Southern Alamance High School, Alamance-Burlington School System.

Gary Stephenson, News 14 Carolinas Chief Meteorologist, avid pilot, and first recipient of the Fly Your Dreams Award will present McArthur the award and serve as host for the air show. Accepting the award for McArthur, currently serving six months on the International Space Station, will be his wife, Cindy McArthur, a North Carolinian who works with NASAs Education Program, and other friends of Bills at NASA.
